Consignment Policy

Please read the following information on Consignment to familiarize yourself with our policies.

Pricing

Remember, the market will determine what the actual value is. Using our knowledge of the market, TCHS will work with you on getting a favorable value for you. The average piece sells for approx. 25 - 65% of the original retail value. If we accept your items for consignment you will get an inventory page with the amount you will receive listed next to each item. In essence, you become our wholesaler. TCHS does not work off of a percentage.  TCHS reserves the right to set the retail price.

Pictures, Pictures, Pictures

and other pertinent information.

Due to the volume of calls we need to stress that pictures are a must. If it is a full house or a candidate for an on-site tag sale, we will see the items personally. Pictures can be digital and e-mailed or regular film and either mailed or dropped off.

Please make sure that you have included where the pieces came from and their original cost.

What we accept

We accept everything for the home or garden - furniture, antiques, lighting, accessories, collectibles, artwork, high-end appliances ( ie. viking, garland, sub-zero), exercise equipment and musical instruments. Our charity "No Place Like Home" can usually take in things that are not quite up to our showrooms standards. Please see our "No Place Like Home" page for details.

Preparation

As the consignor, you need to prepare your items for consignment so that you get the most out of your experience. Realize consignment items are selected  on “sale-ability.” Don’t expect all your items to be accepted for consignment. We can only take in what has a reasonable expectation of what our clientele will buy.

We'll e-mail an inventory "pick-up list" as we must know what is coming into the store so that we can make room. Once we determine what items will be brought into the store or sent to charity, we will help you make arrangements for the pick-up, if needed. The consignor is responsible for the moving cost into the store – which will be re-cooped from the sale of your items.

Clean, clean, clean (did we mention clean?)

Consignment items must be in the best possible condition when trying to consign resale merchandise.  Our showroom may sell pre-owned furniture but it should never look used.  Anyone that has been inside knows we go to great lengths to make sure that the appearance is impeccable.  Furniture should always be clean, sturdy and preferably in mint condition.  The price you will receive for your items depends on the shape they are in at first glance, (and second and third) so spruce them up before you consign. Refinishing is NEVER advised for actual antiques (unless by a professional) as they can actually lose value when not done correctly.  If the items arrive in a not-ready-for-showroom condition, a cleaning/repair charge will be assessed for its preparation.

Timeframe

By requests from our previous consignors, we have instituted a 4-month timeframe that works like this:

Any item is put on the floor at full price for the first month. If the item is still here during the second month it is marked down once and if here for the third month it is marked down again and then again if still here during the fourth month.  See mark-down policy below.

Please realize that with this 4-month markdown policy your items are virtually guaranteed to sell within that timeframe.

Shipping:

We can help make arrangements for your items to be picked up and shipped to the store. Please see our Moving & Delivery Service page.

Mark-Down Policy

It works like this*:

~ First month beginning price.

~ The second month they will be marked down 10% from the previous month.

~ The third month another 10% from the previous month.

~ The fourth month another 10% from the previous month.

The dates for these markdowns will take place on the 10th, 20th and 30th of each month as well as new stock coming in.

So an example is like this:

Ralph Lauren couch - original value $8000

Dated April 20th

First month:        April 20th-May20th....$4,000 (50% of original value)

Second month:    May 20th-June 20th...$3,600  (10% from previous month)

Third month:       June 20th-July 20th...$3,240  (10% from previous month)

Fourth month:     July  20th-Aug.20th...$2,916  (10% from previous month)Fifth month:       contract ends

*Certain items, such as collectibles or high value antiques can be excluded from the mark-down policy on a case-by-case basis.
